Wow...what a huge number of rules and regulations for those priests and Israelites. Leviticus 16 is my personal favorite - as it details the amazing picture of God's sacrificial system, and the concept of the "innocent for the guilty" that continues through the life and death of Jesus.
Remember as you read Leviticus....
...that God is a holy God and to fellowship with Him is to be holy.
...that God is gracious enough to give us a process for holiness - today through Christ.
...that God does not honor (in fact, abhors) unholy practices and lifestyles.
...that God is well-known for judging sin.
...that everything you read in Leviticus is a shadow of the coming reality (Christ).
Are we obligated to do those same things as the Leviticus priests? No, not the ceremonial processes. But remember, within the ceremonial descriptions we also have the moral imperatives that God has given us - and these reflect His unchanging personality. Don't skim Leviticus - read it to know more of the unique Holiness of the One Living God.
And be thankful that our holiness is perfected in the sacrifice of Christ!
